The participation at the FIFVC film/video festival in May ‘08 became a somewhat strange experience. After enjoying this truly exciting city for less than 3 days, even getting a little newspaper article and being lucky enough to present my two programmes of Norwegian video art on the opening day, all of a sudden the whole country went into a state of emergency with Hezbollah’s invasion of Beirut. My colleague and friend, dutch curator Nat Muller, has written well about the whole experience in a blog entry for LabforCulture. It was all a truly surreal experience, and I have to say thanks to the personell at the Norwegian Embassy for being very supportive, plus kudos to mr Norbert Spitz at the Goethe Institut in Beirut for organizing our evacuation so effectively.
