Introduction

“All this does not displease me, so continue,” said Don Quixote. “You arrived; now, what was the queen of beauty doing? Surely you found her stringing pearls or embroidering some device with golden threads for this her captive knight.”
“No, that I did not,” answered Sancho; “she was winnowing two bushels of wheat in a backyard of her house.”
If there were a patron saint for projectionists their talisman would bear an image of a charitable figure bent under the weight of equipment en route to another engagement. Unlike camera or film based work my performances cannot be archived or distributed by intermediaries and require my presence for enactment. My object of attention resists documentation and cannot exist until convened before a bio-synod. Gratefully I was invited and sponsored by PNEK to visit three Norwegian cites: Trondheim (November 6, 2010: TEKS and the Meta.morf Biennial), Bergen (November 9, 2010: Lydgalleriet) and Oslo (November 14, 2010 Atelier Nord, Norsk Filminstitutt and The Dream That Kicks) where my work was supported and given temporary lodging.

On a cold snowing Trondheim night in a cavernous space, Verkstedhallen, on the 6th of November 2010 at the end of a brilliant month long constellation of live concerts and performative events Bruce McClure with the altitude of an idea embodied in a shift of position – from camera to projector, a shift from power to the side of the people – reformulates the world! A biennial curated by Espen Gangvik from TEKS with at least 60 international collaborators drawn from some 20 nations…

Piksel10 (Un)stable, The 8th annual Piksel festival for Electronic Art and Technological Freedom Bergen, Norway. The festival is divided into a day program consisting of presentations and hands-on workshops, an evening program of live art performances, and several exhibitions – all on the topic of free technology and art.

Lør 6.nov: Bruce McClure + Greg Pope i Verkstedhallen, Trondheim
